Dried Sicilian bay leaves 40 g

Sale price€5,50

Dried bay leaves are a classic kitchen herb that adds depth, warmth and a refined herbal aroma to food. La Valle degli Aromi bay leaves come beautifully packed in a 40 g pack and are especially suited to slow-cooked dishes, sauces, stocks and stews.

Bay leaves are usually used whole: add the leaf while the dish cooks and remove it before serving.

Taste and character

The flavour is aromatic, warm, slightly spicy and subtly bitter. Bay doesn't dominate a dish; it supports the other flavours and gives the whole more depth.

Dried bay leaves are especially good in dishes where the flavour can develop slowly as they cook.

How to use

Use bay leaves in tomato sauces, stocks, stews, soups, risotto, bean and lentil dishes, meat dishes, game and fish poaching liquid. One or two leaves are often enough to flavour a whole pot.

Add the bay leaf at the start of cooking and remove it before serving. Whole bay leaves are not usually eaten.

Pairs well with

Particularly good with tomatoes, garlic, onion, olive oil, carrot, celery, beans, lentils, fish, beef, lamb and game.

Also a great match for Italian tinned tomatoes, pasta sauces, vegetable stock, bean stews and slow-braised weekend dishes.

Choose this when

You want quality dried bay leaves for stocks, stews, sauces and other dishes where the flavour should build slowly and in balance. A good staple for the Italian and Mediterranean home kitchen.

Storage

At home, keep the leaves in a lidded container so their aroma lasts as long as possible. Store in a dry place away from light, heat and moisture.
